Policy Analysis

How successful are the programs and policies that promote energy savings in industry? Evaluating the wide array of industrial policies, from fiscal policies to voluntary agreements, can provide valuable lessons for future policy and program development.

Our staff assists governments and agencies by:

  • Identifying lessons from existing policies to improve industrial energy policy design.
  • Evaluating the impacts and costs of adopting policies in the industrial sector.
  • Developing monitoring and verification procedures to ensure that the policies are followed and to accurately quantify energy savings.

Policy and program evaluations inform policymakers about successes and failures and can lead to more effective policy design.

To bridge the information gaps between energy analysts and policy makers, our staff administers the International Network for Energy Demand Analysis in the Industrial Sector (INEDIS). The Network maintains an international database of industrial energy demand data and has organized a workshop entitled "Industrial Energy Efficiency Policies: Understanding Success and Failure."
