Electric motors account for almost two-thirds of the US industrial electricity consumption, with pumping systems accounting for about 25 percent of this electric motor consumption. Savings of 20 percent or more are typically achievable through systems optimization. To address this opportunity, Air Movement and Control Association International, Inc (AMCA), a US fan equipment manufacturers association, and the US DOE have collaborated on numerous projects. On behalf of US DOE, Berkeley Lab has worked with AMCA and its member companies to increase awareness in US industry of the benefits of applying system optimization techniques.
