Public policy can be highly effective in encouraging greater industrial energy efficiency if the policy instruments are carefully matched to the desired energy efficiency goals. Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory conducts research on the effectiveness, cost, and applicability of such policies for national, state, and provincial governments; energy-efficiency organizations; and other influential organizations. Collaboration with industries potentially affected by proposed policies is an integral part of this process. The goal is to link what is known about energy efficiency improvements with the drivers that can motivate industrial facilities to take action; and to study and/or demonstrate policy instruments with the best, lowest-cost opportunity for supporting more energy efficient practices.
